Daniel Payne

Dan works from his studio in Malmesbury, Wiltshire and has spent years developing his skills, with reference to recognised masters in the techniques he uses. He has a particular interest in airbrushing, signpainting, pinstriping and all things vintage.

His art can be described as low brow or vintage horror, stemming from late 1950s and 60s Americana. American artists who were key to the Kustom Kulture and hot rod movement of that time, such as pinstripers Kenny Howard (aka "Von Dutch") and Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (who also worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and custom car designer/builder); and Robert Williams - painter, cartoonist and founder of Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine, are all great inspirations for Dan.

Dan is always busy with commissions as well as his own work and also gets involved with events like Kustom Kulture Blast Off, entering the international Fridge Magnet Art Challenge. He has had brushes made for him and loves trying out new materials such as metalflake, candy and other custom spray and enamel paints. He has a gift for almost instantaneously coming up with brilliant ideas for images and how to combine different materials and objects in his artwork.
